Seven photojournalists and a newspaper editor were honored Thursday for their work in covering the Iraq war. They received the Eddie Adams Tribute Awards, named after the Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer.
The photojournalists honored were Ben Lowy, Jack Gruber, Julie Jacobson, Damir Sagolj, Tom Stoddart, Kuni Takahashi, and Ian Waldie. Howell Raines, former executive editor of The New York Times, was honored for contributing to the quality of the Times' photo coverage of the conflict in Iraq.
Honorees were chosen by a committee of 20 people, directed by Adams and including noted photographers Carl Mydans, Gordon Parks, Joe Rosenthal and David Hume Kennerly. The awards were announced Thursday evening during a ceremony in Manhattan.
